Learning about brainwaves and brainwave frequencies can help you understand how to access deeper levels of consciousness, and also how to reprogram the subconscious mind. Every part of your body vibrates to its own rhythm or frequency and your brain is no exception as it has its own unique set of brainwaves or frequencies.
In neuroscience, there are five distinct brainwave frequencies, namely Beta Waves, Alpha Waves, Theta Waves, Delta Waves and the lesser-known Gamma Waves. Each brainwave frequency, measured in cycles per second (Hz), has its own set of characteristics, representing a specific level of brain activity and unique corresponding state of consciousness.
The Gateway to the Subconscious Mind
Mind control at the deeper states of consciousness grants you direct access to the power of your subconscious mind where you can create your reality at will and with exact precision through your thought power. We will now look the commonly known brainwave frequencies in turn in order of cycles per second (Hz), specifically in descending frequency. And finally, we will consider the more recently discovered Gamma brainwave frequency.
Beta Brainwaves (12-30Hz)
Beta brainwaves are associated with normal waking consciousness and a heightened state of alertness, logic and critical reasoning. As you go about your daily activities you are at the Beta level. Although important for effectively functioning in everyday life, more elevated Beta levels translate into stress, anxiety and restlessness. With the majority of adults primarily operating at high Beta brainwaves during their waking hours, it is little wonder that stress is today’s most common health problem. The ‘voice’ of Beta brainwaves when at a normal frequency is that of reason and discernment, while elevated Beta waves accompany the voice of the constant and often nagging inner chatterbox, which becomes louder and more relentless the higher you go in the range.
Alpha Brainwaves (7.5-12Hz)
Alpha brainwaves are present in deep relaxation with the eyes usually closed and while day-dreaming. The relaxed detached awareness achieved during light meditation is characteristic of Alpha waves and is optimal for programming your mind in the direction you choose. The Alpha brainwave frequency of mind heightens your imagination, visualization, memory, learning and concentration. It lies at the base of your conscious awareness and is the gateway to your subconscious mind. The renowned Silva Method by Jose Silva is premised on the power of the Alpha Level. The ‘voice’ of Alpha waves is your intuition, which becomes clearer and more profound the deeper you go and the closer you get to the lower brainwave frequency of 7.5Hz.
Theta Brainwaves (4-7.5Hz)
Theta brainwaves are present during deep meditation and light sleep, including the REM dream state. The Theta brainwave frequency is the realm of your subconscious mind. It is also known as the twilight state as it is normally only momentarily experienced as you drift off to sleep (from Alpha Level) and arise from deep sleep (from Delta Level). A sense of deep spiritual connection and oneness with the Universe can be experienced at the Theta frequency of brainwaves. Vivid visualizations, great inspiration, profound creativity, exceptional insight as well as your mind’s most deep-seated programs are all at Theta waves. The ‘voice’ of the Theta brainwave frequency is silence.
Delta Brainwaves (0.5-4Hz)
The frequency of Delta brainwaves is the slowest and is present in deep, dreamless sleep and in very deep, transcendental meditation where awareness is completely detached. Delta brainwaves are the realm of what can be considered your unconscious mind. It’s the gateway to collective consciousness (also referred to as the collective unconscious) whereby information received is otherwise unavailable at the conscious level. Delta waves of the brain are associated with deep healing and regeneration, underpinning the importance of deep sleep to the healing process.
This book will take you on a journey to the centre of your reality where you will discover the mighty I within, and in so doing, you will come to understand just what is meant by the greatest maxim of all time, ‘Know Thyself’. It is unlike other books on the subject in that it is founded on what is called Top-Down-Living, which is to live life from the higher vantage point of your Real Self. Only by raising your degree of consciousness above the Physical Plane of your physical experience and the Mental Plane of your thoughts, desires and emotions, can you have directive power over them. Trying to change your physical experience at the degree of consciousness of the physical you is akin to manipulating an already printed photograph and expecting the changes to be reflected when you print it out again from the original negative. The Adventure of I teaches you how to change the ‘original’ so as to create lasting change in your life.
Brainwave EEG Chart
The chart below shows the Brainwave EEG (Electroencephalography) graphs of the four major levels of brainwaves, their respective brainwave frequencies and their corresponding states of mind.
The Alpha-Theta Brainwave Border
The Alpha-Theta border of brainwaves, in the frequency range of 7 to 8Hz, is the optimal frequency range for visualization, mind programming, meditation and using the creative power of your mind. It is the mental state at which you can consciously or intentionally create your reality. At this brainwave frequency of mind control, you are conscious of your surroundings but your body is in deep relaxation. Quite aptly the New Thought author, Neville Goddard, refers to this level of brainwaves as the State Akin To Sleep (SATS).
Brainwave Frequencies for Meditation
To access this meditative brainwave frequency at will, you must learn how to relax physically and mentally. And once you do, you are home-free to using the power of visualization through meditation, which is one of the most powerful manifesting techniques you can use to impress what you desire to manifest on your subconscious mind, and hence on Universal Mind, with intention and persistence.
Gamma Brainwaves (30-100Hz)
Finally, the most recently discovered brainwave frequency range is Gamma Waves, which is the fastest in frequency at above 30Hz (some researchers do not distinguish Beta brainwaves from Gamma brainwaves). Although little is known about this state of the brain, initial research shows the Gamma brainwaves are associated with bursts of insight and high-level information processing.
IN A NUTSHELL
In a nutshell, there are five major brainwaves or brainwave frequencies. Beta waves (12-30Hz) are present in normal waking consciousness and are heightened during times of stress. Alpha waves (7.5-14Hz) are those of deep relaxation, visualization and the first frequency for meditation. Theta waves (4-7.5Hz) are present in deep meditation and light sleep. And the slowest, Delta brainwave frequency (0.5-4Hz) is that of deep dreamless sleep and transcendental meditation. The less recognised Gamma brainwaves are the fastest at above 40Hz and are associated with sudden insight. The optimal brainwave frequency for visualization and meditation is the Alpha-Theta Border at 7-8Hz. It opens the gateway to your subconscious mind and hence to consciously impressing Universal Mind with your desires. At this frequency of brainwaves, you can intentionally create your reality through the power of your imagination.
